An italian restaurant just 2 min walk from where we live and I finally gave it a try on our bank holiday!

Simple food, fried risotto balls were really tasty & the coffe here is strong lol real italian ay!
Definately come back again to try thier pizzas!

Italian Kitchen

We were trying to find an Italian restaurant that wasn't too far away and it was hard because we went on the net and just picked one without any recommendations on the food.

This place was rather quiet with only 3 tables of customers but the service was very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was quite intimate & it was warm and cosy for a nice dinner out. I think they do good pizzas although I'm not very familiar with what qualifies for a good pizza...to me it's the taste, the bread texture and thickness and the toppings etc etc....so I'll have to try more pizzas somewhere else to compare!










Their other dishes such as the ones above was quite dry and I didn't really enjoy them but the pizzas I was really pleased with and will definately come back again for pizzas if I wanted somewhere near home!

Something not asian

Today I went all the way to the city to have lunch with a friend but also EARLY so that i could buy the ma lai koh from the bakery before it's all GONE! Unfortunately, the ma lai koh was not as nice as ones before but still good! I A M so addicted to this aye! Sigh!!!!!

Anyway for lunch we went to this place in QVB and they had a variety of pizza slices. It cost less to "takeaway" than to eat there!!! This is the most silliest rule because I've never had to encounter this in Auckland or anywhere in New Zealand!

I think the pizza I chose was rather plain, but Andrea had meat lovers and she said it was really tasty!! Ok, so next time me going for something with MEAT! I should have known...but because of my "lack" of vegetarian input I thought lets have some "vege" = potatoes...not really vege like green but I thought it's a change from my usual curry or meat!

Portofino

Portofino is one of the popular Italian restaurant in Auckland, that again because of the price I only go there for special occasion.

Tonight, we went to celebrate Siaw Hui and Ken's hens/stag night before they get hitch in malaysia!!

Here are some of the dishes that we had. They served very simple dishes and what I meant by simple was 1) Simple presentation 2) Simple taste. Food wise, nothing really stood out for me and for the price!

I had the fish:

Pesce del Giorno $35.90
Naturally grilled fish of the day with garlic & olive oil finished with pomodoro salsa. Served with aborio rice & salad :


Lamb Cutlets $33.90
Grilled with olive oil & garlic, served over carrot & green beans risotto


This was the popular dish amoung us:
Bistecca al Peppe Nero $34.90
280gm Prime Grass Fed Scotch grilled with olive oil & garlic flamed in Vecchia Brandy & black pepper panna sauce. Served with vegetables & potatoes.


I honestly think that there are better food out there BUT there is limited eating places in Mission Bay and Portofino is always packed and has a nice ambience. Also, it is just opposite Movenpick and next to Starbucks and below Reef so there are plenty of choices to go to for dessert/music after!
