I recently visited USA earlier this year and had the opportunity to try some of the popular food people rave about...bagels, pizzas, burgers, red velvet cupcakes....well ok these are actually what others suggest we eat while in NYC! There are definately other types of amazing food and the city is just to BIG to explore all of that!
I thought I'll post some of the simple yet very tasty bites we had while we were there!
Teriyaki chicken in a fried burger bun and their amazing delicious chicken wings that is what makes this tiny jap place popular:
Salmon cream cheese bagel which is one of my favourites:
Cream cheese bagel if you prefer it plain:
Red Velvet Cupcake, one of MANY around NYC! This craze has got me making some red velvets which I shall remember to post soon:
To prove that it is red inside:
Cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery, super long line, waited for about 30 mins to get in:
Chicken on rice somewhere in the city that only starts business at night and the line is super long!
Pretzels and Kebabs everywhere in their carts along the streets of New York, you'll never starve!
Ice cream called dipping dots which is like small bubbles that is hard when you scoop it but melts in your mouth like an ice cream should!
That's all for now! Good to see that Polar bear in San Diego has a better diet than me!:
I love anything sweet especially anything with red bean!I love baking n trying new recipies.Dont put me in chinese bakeries, I'll end up buying everything. I am learning more about LIFE and how much there is to it. I am learning more about how BIG my GOD is and what he has in store for me! LIFE is full of exciting and daunting adventures but Praise GOD he walks through it with me!

Amsterdam
During our Europe trip we also stopped by Amsterdam and really enjoyed the vibrant character Amsterdam has to offer. Apart from the red light district and the "coffee shops" which doesn't sell coffee, I really enjoyed cycling everywhere and trying new food!
Here is a few food I thought reminded me of Holland and I don't find much of them anywhere else:
Dutch Breakfast with thinly sliced raw beef on a toasted bread with eggs similar to eggs benedicts but with beef not salmon, pretty intersting:

Mini dutch pancakes called Pofferjes served with powdered sugar and butter:

Raw Herring: Dutch fast food can eat the whole fish like this man below or eaten with raw onions and/or pickles:

Dutch Apple cake/pie:

A selection of Dutch beef stews that we had in a very dutch restaurant:

Italy
I've been quiet with the blog lately due to travelling around Europe! It was an amazing trip with lots of yummy food, wine, coffee, gelatos and interesting bakeries!
One of our destination was Italy, we visited Rome, Florence, Pisa and Venice with Florence being one of my favourite! There were plentiful of pizzas, pasta and gelatos everywhere! Gelatos and caffe creme were my dessert after every meal!
The pizza was sold by grams and so they slice it up, weigh it and you pay for how much it weighs. The best pizzas I've had in Italy was in the small pizza shops that only sells pizzas with very little seating inside.
One of the many pizzas in Rome:

Unleaven bread with mushroom sauce, cheese, smoked ham and aubergines in Florence, this was one of the yummiest meal I've had which probably played a big part on why I liked Florence more than other places!

Inside:

Lagsana in Florence:

Seafood Pasta in Florence:

Pizza rolls in venice:

I really miss the tasty food there but not the price, everything is very expensive and double in price if we choose in dine in. There won't many chinese places to dine at so I'll definately miss my asian food if I was there any longer.

Trip to Singapore & one night in KL

I only manage to post some of the food that I enjoyed eating in my recent trip to Singapore.
My favourite is Mee Pok which is similar to the Taiwan dry noodles Zha Jiang Mian, Kuching Kolo Mee or just like Spagetti. I enjoy my mee pok with fishballs but some have minced pork on top. The best Mee Pok I tried during this trip was at Tiong Bahru markets. This market is well known for their local food, their paos and many other food.

Something away from the local food...scones!! As you may already know, I have a love for scones...any type of scones is fine as long as they have a nice texture. Knowing I enjoy scones, my friend brought me to this place inside Takashimaya in Orchard. It's called Royal Copenhagan Tea Lounge. There they had high tea sets and popular for their scones. The way they served their tea and butter/cream was very interesting too. I would definately come back here to eat their scones again!

Ok now for this new Hong Kong restaurant in Sunway Pyramid in KL! I don't know where else has good wonton mee or ying yang cha (coffe & tea mix) but at CANTON-i in pyramid I thought that this was one of the BEST wonton mee I've tasted! The noodles were so fine and the sauce was perfect and so was the size! I finished the plate in no time!

They also had char siew which was also very nice:

They also sell dim sum and other dishes but obviously we couldn't order the whole menu but this couldnt pass my eyes! I saw it on the menu and I knew I had to try it! It's something like egg custard inside but to my surprise the taste was actually as good as it looked...

I'll definately come back here again!

Melbourne food galore!
Just came back from my 6 days trip to Melbourne with hubby for our birthday celebration. I totally love Melbourne and can see why people would not mind living there!

Melbourne is great for its food, shopping and café culture! I really love Melbourne and I had to try their coffee when I touched down and so I did at Kilda Beach with lunch by the beach side.

The mushroom spinach on toast was divine and their coffee tasted really like the ones in Auckland – great! They also do great pancakes and breakfast items that you may fancy and very similar to the ones you find here in auckland cafes. I also had the pecan tart to go with my mochacino and it was yumness!

On our first night, our friend Wei Lee brought us to Lygon Street which is a street full of Italian restaurants and I meant a row of ITALIAN restaurants!

There were pizzes, pastas, pizzas, pastas and you can see them making the pizzas through the windows like how you would see the chefs making dumplings in China through the windows! It was amazing how Melbourne offers such a range of diverse food and it had a great atmosphere as well! The problem is that there were too many choices to choose from and can be abit of a headache!
On our road trips we also stopped along this place called the boatshed in Ballarat for their scones and yummy cakes! It seems like a few places often scones and tea/coffee set or cake and tea/coffee sets and they do pretty well. We had:
Macadamia lemon tart which is one of the best tarts I’ve ever tasted but that’s only if you like macadamia nuts:

warm banana pudding with vanilla ice cream:

Scones served with jam & cream:

They offered 2 scones on the plate with jam and cream – it went well with my Earl Grey Tea but can't believe they served 2 scones!!! (That's my afternoon tea and I still want to eat my dinner!)
Back in Melbourne city which we spent on our last two days (Monday & Tuesday), Marcus & I had dinner at this greek restaurant called Kouzina by Yarra River for my birthday and it’s very similar to C.A.C Mt Eden where they offered a range of tapas. The restaurant overlooks the river and the city lights which was amazing!
Delicious feta kopanisti dip with warm pita bread:

grilled chicken:

keftedes which is a type of meatball tapas topped with onions:

Flaming saganaki which is fried cheese that is melted in a pan and is normally eaten with bread and lemon juice to help with the strong flavour:

The taste of each food was so strong it really was divine! It is so different to the taste you get from eating asian, it’s very strong but not curry and spice strong. There were many great restaurants at Southbank along the river to dine in and a foodcourt at the bottom as well if you prefer something not as costly but the view may not be that great! Sigh, the price to pay for a good view ay!
What I love about Melbourne though is the little hidden lanes that is buzzing with cafes and life! It has interesting art work along the walls as well the rubbish bins! Any shop you stop at, the coffee is great and they sell the normal sandwiches, soups, muffins and brunch lunch menus! I can spend the whole day just cruising around the lanes and trying out different food but then obviously that would mean I can’t explore other parts of the city!

We stayed just by chinatown where they also had a variety of great asian crusine and Kopitiam there reminded me of back home and I went there twice out of my whole 2 days in the city! Their kopitiam really tasted authentic and like back home!

It closes really late too like 2am so if you need a supper place go there! We had their ice kajang and their nasi lamak on the first night and tried their assam laksa and chicken laksa the other night and all met our expectations. There were many Japanese places to eat because I think it's healthy and quick!

We had Japanese at Phillips Arcade recommended by Mary our friend and it was packed out really quickly!
They also had a number of breadtop chains which I thought which breadtalk (but got cheated)anyway, they had a Hong Kong bakery is in China town and apparently their egg tarts are the best in town so we tried them and it was not bad. Their wife pastry was nice though as it was soft and smooth!
On the last night of our stay there we went to a German restaurant called Hofbrauhaus in the city along Market Lane and to my surprise the food wasn’t that bad! They had interesting items on their menu but nothing strange like dog meat or rabbit meat =) Honestly though I prefer the bakeries in Auckland.
Schweinebraten: Roast pork, served with sauerkraut and potato dumpling:

Sauerkraut is cabbage that was shredded up and tasted like pickled cabbage, very nice but Marcus didn't like it.
Jagerschnitzel: pan fried veal schnitzel with fresh vegetables, spatzle and a creamy mushroom sauce:

Konigin Pastete: Veal chicken and mushroom ragout served in pastry:

Well, basically I have eaten so much during this trip I can't believe how much I've spent! (Have to get over it and tell myself it's a holiday what is spent is spent but it was such an experience!)
I will definately return to Melbourne in the near future =)
